Not necessary but handy to have.
I dont know that anyone would expect the Ryker to have a frunk and try to steal something but this would certainly deter them. I did leave the pin on mine that they instructed to remove. Rather than pressing the lock and pulling up, the pin makes you press to release also so it would appear locked all the time to anyone who didnt know. I felt the latch was a little flimsey and didnt close as tightly as the factory pin. Adding the pin back fixed that and its still lockable.
